NTEX Swimmer of the Month for April 2010 Each month, NTEX Masters will choose a member of the team for a short Q &A. This month meet: Jeanine Meyers
1. How long have you been a swimmer? I have been swimming with Masters for 3 years now. I swam for City of Plano Swimmers age group swimming when they were a pretty small swim club back in the 70's through early 80's. I also swam for the high school all four years. 2. What is you greatest swimming accomplishment? My greatest swimming accomplishment would have to be doing the One Hour Postal swim in January. Just swimming for a solid hour is such an accomplishment. I have not competed much since I have joined Masters. 3. Do you have a favorite workout? My favorite workout would have to be when we do our 'group swim'. I have to admit I do not like to see the big blank on the sheet when Dave passes out the workout but the group swims push me far more than I push myself in a daily workout. By far my favorite workouts are sprints and NOT long distance. 4. What do you like to do for exercise if you are not swimming? I have not been as dedicated to other exercises besides swimming as I had in the past. I do enjoy the elliptical and bike when I am not swimming. I need to push myself more to lift weights. 5. Where were you born? I was born in Oak Lawn, Illinois. We moved to Plano when I was in the 4th grade and I graduated from Plano Senior High School in 1982. I went to Stephen F. Austin State and double majored in Deaf Education and Elementary Education. I have my Masters from Texas A&M Commerce in Special Education. My husband (Ken) and I have been married for 24 years and have two teenage kids, Cameron (age 17) and Lauren (age 14). 6. What is your favorite television show? My favorite tv shows are Cake Boss and Boston Med. 7. What goals have you set for yourself this year in swimming? I really have not set many goals for myself in swimming. I have not competed as much as I wanted to this year but I do put my husband, kids and now job ahead of swim meets. My daughter plays club volleyball so most weekends are spent at volleyball courts cheering her on. I figure if I just keep swimming I can get to meets when I can. I do enjoy competing. My goal this year is just to get to the pool and swim as much as I can. I just went back to work this year as a deaf education teacher (I took 10 years off to raise my two kids) so swimming is helping me manage the stress that comes with going back to work. I am currently doing Go the distance and that helps motivate me to get as much yardage as I can in for the year. 8. What do you think about while you are swimming? Do you want what the coach wants to hear???? Okay, what I should be thinking about is head position, rotation and streamlining off the walls........what do I really think about???? Usually I am thinking about is what I have planned for the day, my to-do list or what I need to remind my kids to do at home. I also have a habit of singing songs in my head.....no wonder I always loose count on what lap we are on.....Elaine can contest to that one!!!! 9. What famous personality do you resemble? I asked my husband and kids about this one.......they came up with Goofy. Nice, hu? I guess my personality does resemble Goofy......however I am very sarcastic and Goofy is not so, if anyone knows a silly but sarcastic personality out there let me know....that is me!!! 10. Who is your sports role model? Has to be Dara Torres. She competed in the Olympics in her 40's and is a mom to boot......wow what a woman!!!! 11. Who is your favorite Olympic swimmer? I absolutely loved watching the summer Olympics and even though Michael Phelps made some stupid choices after the Olympics with the pot smoking and all.....he is unbelievable!!! I would say I have the utmost respect for both Michael Phelps and Dara Torres 12. Who is your favorite super hero? It has to be Wonder Woman. There are days I wish I was her so I would be able to have the strength to do all that needs to be done as a busy mom. Honestly I just take it day by day and try my best. I do love the shirt this year from the Hour Postal Swim. On the back is a quote from Dorrie from Finding Nemo....'Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming. What do we do? We swim, swim, swim....' So true!!! That is my motto too. It also makes a great song in your head while you keep swimming, swimming, swimming......... |
